According to a recent survey, 46% of Europeans do not exercise at all during the week, primarily due to a lack of effective incentives. Furthermore, a significant portion of inner-city mobility could be covered by walking, cycling, or a combination with public transport. However, habits, inertia, and the lack of motivation lead many citizens to use private vehicles, even though this is often more costly and slower. The overall result is increased traffic congestion and pollution.
Run4More is the first free application in Greece aimed at increasing physical activity (walking, running, cycling). Users are rewarded with points that can be redeemed at collaborating businesses, earning gift vouchers, special offers, or supporting actions with a social impact.
It is not simply another fitness app, but a mechanism for material motivation. It uses exercise as a pathway to providing material incentives, combining the user's intrinsic and extrinsic motivations to encourage the adoption of a more active and healthy lifestyle.
Leveraging machine learning mechanisms, the application suggests the "best" and "most suitable" offers for each user to maximize their motivation potential.
Simultaneously, it serves as an innovative tool for both mass outreach and targeted, non-intrusive, beneficial, and socially responsible advertising.
The main challenge we faced was achieving the necessary development of new features to support the Proof of Concept within the given timeframes.
We received significant financial and advisory support from the program, focusing on the crucial details of the Proof of Concept we had defined. The attitude of the Science Agora organizers was exactly as demanding and helpful as a team needs to understand that they are now operating under market conditions, while still having all the necessary support to achieve their goal. Mentoring and addressing queries were almost on the daily agenda of our contact with Science Agora.
