The Athena Research Center is the only Research Center in Greece that focuses exclusively on Information Technologies, Computational Sciences, and Communications. It was established in 2003 and has facilities in Athens, Patras, and Xanthi. It consists of three Institutes specializing in Language and Speech Processing, Industrial Systems, and Information Systems, respectively, and eight Units focusing on Technological Collaborative Formations, Space Programs, Robotics, Environmental and Network Technologies and Applications, Pharmaco-informatics, Sustainable Development, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Algorithms, and Female Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
