The 1st Proof-of-Concept Program of Science Agora

The 1st Proof-of-Concept program of Science Agora was run by NSCR Demokritos, the Athens Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACE) of AUEB, the National Technical University of Athens and the Athena Research Center in collaboration with Google.

The Thematic Areas

The program focused on Energy and Environment. Taking into account the contemporary challenges related to climate change and environmental degradation, as well as the technological advancements and investments aimed at addressing these issues, SCIENCE AGORA invited entrepreneurial and research teams to submit business proposals that leverage cutting-edge technologies to tackle challenges in the following thematic areas:

Funding for the implementation of the PoC, ranging from €15,000 to €40,000, based on specific evaluation criteria.

Participation in mentoring sessions and pitching presentations to facilitate networking with the market.

Advisory support from experienced industry professionals for the design and implementation of the PoC in a real-world environment.

FreshiT

FreshiT focuses on applying gentle technologies (osmotic dehydration, edible coating) to fresh fruits in order to preserve their nutritional content, flavor, and other organoleptic characteristics, thereby extending the product's shelf life.

SciDrones

The purpose of the EMERGE project is to improve the current surveillance process for medium and high-voltage networks. The EMERGE project will utilize data collected by UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) to map the networks and generate all the necessary geospatial information, which will accurately depict the status of the networks and any potential malfunctions.

The goal of the project is to develop a device that determines the Silt Density Index (SDI)—a critical water quality parameter—in real-time and in situ during water treatment processes, such as reverse osmosis units. This is intended to prevent membrane fouling and operational malfunctions, requiring minimal operator intervention.
