Already since the '90s, "Demokritos", the National Center of Scientific Research, took its first steps in technology transfer and efforts to exploit research results, through the creation of spin-off companies, initiatives in developmental actions (like the ARIADNE Network, participation in the creation of OTENET) and the founding of the "Leukippos" Attica Technology Park. Technology transfer services were provided by scattered structures within the Center up to that point. From 2017, following a series of administrative reforms, "Demokritos" established new interdisciplinary structures and adopted full regulatory provisions for Technology Transfer with the aim of optimal management and exploitation of the Center's intellectual property portfolio, the attraction of private capital to research and the support of entrepreneurship. The Center has today achieved significant patent co-development contracts with international companies (EY Global, Qualco, TITAN) and has supported the establishment of spin-off companies that have had successful trajectories (Cyrus, Nanoplasmas, Theta Metrisis etc.).
